Gassing

We are certificated to use all legal forms of gassing for rabbit control and are fully acquainted with its use and application.

There are two forms of gas still allowed since the withdrawal of Cymag, being Sodium Cyanide and Aluminium Phosphine.

Firstly all rabbits must be driven into their warrens and all holes must be accessible to be gassed and blocked. Any left open will leave the operation to be forfeited. The cost of scrub clearance must be taken into account as a negative to this method.

The gas tablets are administered by a hand held dispenser into each burrow which is then sealed normally with a few spadefuls of soil and turf. The moisture in the ground allows the tablet to release its gasses.

Following a period of time any re open holes are re administered and blocked, until the job has been completed.

Each location has a full risk assessment carried out and all other options are presented to the client with gas being the method of last resort.

Often proximity to water systems, public access and high risk to non target species such as slow worms and Polecats prohibits its use.

This is an expensive method and its choice is where appropriate down to the client. We have seen over the last few years that increasingly the customer is choosing more traditional and green methods over gas.
